RADIO CITY ROCKETTES: PRECISION DANCE TEAM AT ITS BEST!
Whether your dream is to become a Radio City Rockette or just dance
like one, come join us. Gina was awarded a scholarship to study
at a summer intensive with the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes at
the University of Texas in Austin. Dancers in attendance trained
for a week in Rockette jazz, tap, and kick choreography which culminated
in a performance. Gina is offering dancers a chance to experience
the same precision dance team training that has previously remained
exclusive to only Radio City. Learn the choreography and style that
has made the Rockettes an American icon.
BASIC SKILLS: LEAPS, JUMPS, & TURNS
Dancers will learn to execute the most commonly performed skills
for any performance team. The skills include chainés, pirouettes,
axles, piqué turns, jetés, switch leaps, and Russians. The execution
of most of these skills is mandatory in any dance/drill team audition.
Strengthen these leaps, jumps, and turns, and look forward to scoring
more points with the judges.
THE #1 HIGH KICK: IT’S TRADITION, IT’S THE HIGH KICK!
Find out every detail needed to execute a perfect kick. Use strength
and flexibility exercises to increase the height of the kick. Emphasis
is placed on programming the dancer to perform with stretched alignment,
knees, and toes.
Technical strategies will be shared that will earn you the title
of the #1 HIGH KICK.
TURNS IN SECOND FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS
Attend this master class and learn preparatory methods that will
gradually build to turns in second. Strengthening exercises will
be demonstrated to increase turn out and to build endurance for
consecutive turns. The basic mechanics will be demonstrated at a
beginning level with lots of repetition. Let’s keep turning!
ADVANCED TURNS IN SECOND: SEVEN DIFFERENT VARIATIONS
Perform brilliant turns in second. We begin with exercises that
build strength in the hip flexors and legs to increase the height
of the extension and duration of the turn. Turns in second are real
crowd pleasers for specialty groups and solo performers. Learn up
to seven different variations which include arabesque, attitude,
pirouette, soutenu, pique, coupe, and saut de basque. Entertain
the audience and challenge yourself with turns in second.
FOUETTE TURNS : FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS
Have you always wanted to learn how to perform fouetté turns but
felt intimidated by the difficulty? Attend this class and learn
preparatory methods that will gradually build to the actual turn.
The basic mechanics will be demonstrated at a beginning level, and
you will now have the knowledge to continue practicing. Come on
out and take the challenge!
FOUETTE TURNS
The Italian School of Milan, home to ballet masters such as Carlos
Blasis and Enrico Cecchetti, was known for strong technique and
the virtuosity of its dancers. These performers astonished the audience
with their difficult steps and brilliant turns. The tradition continues
today as dancers labor to perfect one of the most challenging and
beautiful turns, the fouetté turn. Fouetté turns may be performed
with beats, in illusions, to four corners, out of piqué turns, cabrioles
and into axles. Experience the timeless and brilliant gift of fouetté
turns.
STAGE MAKEUP: PUT YOUR BEST FACE FORWARD
Dancers and pageant performers make your next spring revue or staged
competition even more impressive with emphasis to the “stage face.”
Bring your “show kit” full of makeup and we’ll have some fun! You
will be introduced to shading and highlighting techniques that will
minimize and maximize features for a more beautiful you. Add dimension
to features when distance and harsh lighting flatten and wash out
the color of the face. Tricks will be shared for camouflaging dark
circles and covering blemishes. Find out what colors look best with
your eyes, how to apply false eye lashes, and much much more!
CLASSICAL JAZZ TRAINING
Jazz dance is America’s gift to the world of dance and no one embodies
the spirit of jazz more than Gus Giordano, the internationally recognized
choreographer and originator of the famous Giordano Technique. Based
on his technique, this class covers the basics of alignment, the
plié, isolations, contractions, hinges, lunges, and the popular
jazz hand. The warm up and center floor activities graduate quickly
from a beginner to advanced level. This is a sound curriculum for
creating greater awareness of the dancer’s “center” with emphasis
placed on technical excellence.
FUN TRICKS: DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT!
Add some hot sauce to your choreography with a new twist on leaps,
jumps and turns. These skills include chainés, arabesque and piqué
turns, battement and jeté combinations as well as axles, and cabrioles.
This class has something for everyone building from beginner to
advanced progressions. Get a new "look" for your performance by
incorporating fun and exciting skills. Do something different!
TAP: TIME STEPS
An energetic cast of 42nd Street dancers have "wowed" audiences
by drumming out beats to the traditional time step. Begin with a
single time step and then build in intensity with a triple time
step, double triple time step, or a winged time step or a traveling
time step. It's fun to learn and looks and sounds great in any tap
routine. Challenge yourself and add zing to your choreography with
time steps.
